Summer Newsletter

Dear Parents and children,

There are many thanks to be offered at the end of the school year, to the staff and pupils for all their hard work, to you the parents for your support and all the extra little things you do to help in school that often go unnoticed. It has been a year of change and a lot of hard work for all of us in school – and I’m pleased to say that it has paid off, our KS1 & KS2 SATs results are up on previous years (KS1 results are very high) - more children have achieved their targets this year and in Foundation Stage Children have achieved more highly than in previous years – and they have just been playing! What’s more we have of course fitted in more visits, more fun and turned the school into a zoo (will the straw ever disappear) So once again Thank you and have a good summer.

April Newsletter, 2008

Dear Parents and Children,

You might have seen headlines in the newspapers recently regarding the teachers' strike due to take place on the 24th April, 2008. The teachers at Stanbury are not striking and school will carry on as normal that day.

Building work

The building work is running to schedule (!). At the moment we are looking to move the classes to their new locations in May.

School trips

We always encourage visits that will enhance children's learning and understanding of the topics they are covering in school. Class 2 have had a lot of visits lately - all heavily subsidised by school. However - if the costs are becoming a burden please let me know. Class 2 have two more visits planned in mid-June: one to Chester Zoo and another to Nell Bank in Ilkley.

Sports relief

The school raised £513 for sports relief - please pass on our thanks to everyone that made a donation.

Labels

Believe it or not, the weather is getting warmer, and children are taking off coats and jumpers... and losing them. Please make sure items of footwear and clothing are labelled clearly.

Footwear

Children should wear black shoes or black trainers to school. School prefers children to wear shoes as they are better for children's feet than trainers.

Parking

Please park sensibly, keeping off the pavements, which causes an obstruction to the Walking Bus and for people with prams.

Dates for your Diary

  • 7 April, new summer term begins
  • 12 May, Key stage 2, SATS
  • 19 May History Week
  • 9 June Literacy Week

October Newsletter

Dear Parents and Children,

There will be lots happening in school over the next few weeks and much has already happened!

Our football team has already played, the running club have raced, there is an athletics

competition for the older children next week and in school we are nearly half way through the

Stanbury Memory Championships.

If your memory isn’t so good… keep this newsletter to hand, it will tell you what’s going on and

when!

School dinner tasting

On Wednesday 3rd October straight after school.

Over 50% of the food is made on site these days and it just keeps getting better and better. Why

not come along to the hall and see for yourself.

Harvest

Our harvest Assembly will be on Wednesday 10th October. We would be grateful if you could

bring in some tinned food to share with the needy.

Art Week

Our Art week will be based on the theme of ‘Art in nature’ and the Art work of Andy

Goldsworthy. We need some help with resources though and would appreciate it if you could

bring in any of the following:

Autumn coloured leaves

Twigs

Corks

Pine cones

Conkers – Prickles and all!

Acorns

There will be collection bins at the entrances of school.

Parking

I have unfortunately had a number of complaints from the residents and the bus company about inconsiderate parking.

I have also been contacted by a resident regarding parking on the pavement near to school –

many of these houses cellars extend under the pavement and heavy cars could well be causing

structural damage. What’s more, cars parked on the pavement are forcing children onto the road.

Please be considerate in your parking…

If you park at the bottom of the village you could walk to school with your

child and the parents who run the walking bus.

Park and Stride (The Walking bus)

Gerry Robertson-Brown will soon be starting as schools’ official ‘Walking bus coordinator’.

Some reminders

Smoking is not allowed on the premises.

Dogs are not allowed on the premises.

The school day finishes at 3:15pm

Please ensure your child brings a coat to school

Crisps will be going up to 30p a packet from 1st October 2007

Class 3  Assembly

Thursday 4th October at 9am

Volunteers

Thank you to all those parents who have contacted school expressing an interest in volunteering, I will be

contacting you over the next week to organise some times for you to come into school and help out.

National Bookstart Day

This is being celebrated at Keighley library on Wednesday 3rd October. There will be two sessions

of stories and craft activities and are for pre-school children and their parents. Sessions start at

11am and 2pm and are titled ‘Jungle Rhyme-time’.
