Stanbury Village School

Inspirational learning - Aspiration to succeed

Science

                     Our Rationale for Science
At Stanbury Village School, we believe that teaching and learning in science should stimulate, inspire and excite children’s
curiosity about the world around them. Scientific knowledge is a key life skill, which children must acquire to age related
expectations by the time they leave Primary education, taking account of any SEND requirements.
At the heart of all our science curriculum. We believe children should develop enquiring minds through research, questioning
and discussion in order to communicate using precise language involving mathematical, logical and creative thinking. Our
children develop their knowledge through curiosity, exploration, questioning and firming opinion.
Children at Stanbury are given the opportunity to have their views challenged in order to improve their understanding.
Practical experiences, set within meaningful contexts help to develop a range of investigative skills, which allows children
to take risks and learn from their mistakes. They develop skills to help them problem solve, design ways to test and to find
out answers to problems and questions. They are able to select scientific equipment, collate and interpret results, become
increasingly confident in their ability to come to conclusions based on real life evidence. Thus, developing the children into
independent learners.
