Safeguarding
Our school community has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of all our pupils. We have a robust Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which parents are welcome to view and a copy is available on our policies page. An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS) is required of all staff, including our volunteers and supply staff.
Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will always ensure that concerns about our pupils are discussed with their parents or carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this is not in the child’s best interests.

Security of Premises
We strive to keep the building as secure as possible for pupils and staff. After 9.00am the only access into school is via the main entrance, all other gates around school will be closed.
The school also has a metal fence around the perimeter of the playground and C.C.T.V. is installed.
As we are responsible for the safety of children, we cannot allow your child to leave school during school hours unless they are collected by an adult. There is a signing out procedure at the school office for any pupil leaving school during the school day.
Parking
If it is not possible to walk to school, in order to ensure the safety of our pupils and to avoid congestion in the immediate vicinity, we encourage parents and carers to park safely and considerately in the surrounding area, particularly on Main Street as this road is very narrow and at times is hazardous. Double yellow lines are painted on the road and parking signs remind parents of the restrictions. Police officers monitor parking and do issue fines to parents who park illegally.
Additional parking is available at The Wuthering Heights Pub - who have kindly agreed to allow parents to use their car park, but please ensure you park considerately and within the allocated bays.
Operation Encompass
Stanbury Village School is an Operation Encompass School.
The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in a domestic abuse incident.
Operation Encompass, has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of normal school hours. Each morning a police officer will review all domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of school but which might have had an impact on a child attending school the following day. Where children were present, witnessed or involved in a domestic abuse incident and aged between 4 and 16 years old, the officer will send this information to Children’s Social Care Front Door Service. Staff from the Front Door Service will send this information in a secure format to the identified Key Adult (Headteacher). The Key Adult (Headteacher) will check their emails every day and the staff in contact with those pupils will then be in an informed position to support them in a way that is right for the child.
This information will be shared on school days during school term and, when incidents occur on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or over a holiday period, the police will contact the Front Door the following Monday.
Operation Encompass has proved to be very effective in providing appropriate support to children. Hill Top is keen to offer the best support possible to all our children and we believe this initiative is extremely beneficial and supportive for all those involved.
